The Texas Auctioneer Education and Recovery Fund
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation manages a dedicated Auctioneer Education and Recovery Fund, providing compensation to consumers harmed by a licensed auctioneer. TDLR reviews the fund's balance annually and can assess additional licensee fees if needed to maintain its required minimum balance.
License Renewal
A Texas auctioneer license is good for one year and must be renewed every year through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Texas requires 6 hours of continuing education per renewal. Texas has a limited Associate Auctioneer license for a person to work under the direct supervision of a fully licensed Texas auctioneer. This does not provide a pathway to the full license. For a full auctioneer license, you need to complete auction school and pass the Texas auction exam. The full auctioneer license allows you to conduct auctions independently on your own.
Reciprocity
Texas has reciprocal agreements with Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
